Marc Marquez emerged as the fastest rider on the first day of the MotoGP Amerika Serikat 2025, held at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin on Friday (28/3) local time.
In the first free practice session (FP1), Marquez initially placed third, trailing Franco Morbidelli and Jack Miller. The Ducati rider was 0.249 seconds behind Morbidelli during the wet track conditions due to rain.
Marquez experienced a highside at turn two with 31 minutes remaining in FP1, marking the first crash for “The Baby Alien” since joining Ducati. Fortunately, he sustained no serious injuries and continued on in FP1.
As the practice session progressed from wet to dry conditions, Marquez found his rhythm, clocking a best time of 2 minutes 02.929 seconds.
He outpaced the two Pertamina Enduro VR46 riders, Fabio di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli, with a significant lead of 0.736 seconds over di Giannantonio.
Marquez’s closest rival in the MotoGP 2025 standings, his brother Alex, finished in fourth place, with Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer following closely behind him.
Jack Miller was the fastest non-European rider in the practice session, finishing sixth, 1.024 seconds slower than Marquez, followed by Pedro Acosta, Maverick Vinales, and Joan Mir.
Francesco Bagnaia struggled, managing to qualify directly for Q2 in tenth place but lagging 1.530 seconds behind Marquez’s time.
